The ferrous metals are significantly denser than non-ferrous alloys like aluminium, they require higher-penetration X-ray sources to look deep inside thick walls. Karma Innovations designs and integrates high-kV Industrial Digital Radiography (DR) and Computed Tomography (CT) to penetrate heavy ferrous structures. By replacing traditional radiographic film with ultra-sensitive digital detectors, their systems provide rapid, high-contrast internal imaging, helping foundries maintain strict quality control, lower scrap rates, and meet international manufacturing standards.

Critical Defects Detected in Ferrous Castings

Using real-time digital enhancement software, our systems quickly isolate structural anomalies inside dense ferrous matrices:

  • Shrinkage Cavities & Micro-shrinkage: Internal voids or spongy zones formed when dense iron or steel contracts unevenly during cooling.
  • Gas Porosity & Blowholes: Trapped mold gases or steam pockets that create rounded internal cavities, compromising structural integrity.
  • Inclusions (Slag/Sand): Non-metallic impurities or trapped molding sand embedded within the casting wall.
  • Hot Tears and Internal Cracks: Fractures that propagate along grain boundaries due to thermal stresses during solidification.
  • Chills or Unfused Chaplets: Internal hardware inserts that fail to completely fuse with the molten metal.

1. Heavy Automotive & Commercial Vehicle Components

  • AERB-Approved Radiation Shielding: Completely enclosed, self-shielded structure complying with Atomic Energy Regulatory Board standards, ensuring total operator safety on the factory
